Pensioner Grace Hepworth has been left unable to pay her mortgage – because her Huddersfield bank wouldn’t take cash.
Miss Hepworth, 64, has paid her monthly £300 bill in notes for several years.
But she was left stumped this week when a member of staff at the King Street branch of Abbey refused to accept the money.
She said: “I see it as an insult to the Queen – how can a bank refuse to accept money with the Queen’s face on it?”
An Abbey spokeswoman said: “We would like to reassure customers that we do accept cash in our branches.
“We will be looking into this specific case as a matter of urgency.”
