Pub's pool team is barred for sinking too few pints

A pub pool team from East Sussex have been thrown out of their league for not spending enough money during a match.

Five members of the British Legion C team were barred from a rival pub in Brighton after the landlord saw they had bought one drink between them.

The players said some of them had to work in the early mornings and could not drink and then do their jobs.

Adrian Street, who runs the pub and the pool league, argued they were offered non-alcoholic drinks as well. He said that during this week's match he asked the visiting team if any of them were having a drink, either alcoholic or non-alcoholic.

But all of the team declined, because they were either driving that night or working the next day. "I said if you're not spending any money you might as well leave the pub," Mr Street said.

Team captain Gavin Hunt said he had been playing in the pool league for at least six years, and had never been faced with such a situation before.
