Remorseful burglar returns to scene for 3rd time - Update

The burglar who broke into a Queenstown, New Zealand home has returned to the scene of the crime for a third time, to leave cash and another apology.

Initially, Graeme Glass was as bemused as police when the laptop computer, digital camera and wallet stolen from his home were mysteriously returned with a note of apology.

The remorseful thief also promised to make full restitution for the cost of the window he smashed during the break-in.

Now he has been back again to leave $150 in cash. While grateful for the money, Mr Glass says he and his wife feel a bit uneasy that the thief keeps coming back to their home.

The cash would "certainly cover" the $100 insurance excess paid to replace the window, but the thief's third visit to the home had left the couple pondering their own safety, Mr Glass said.

Police are studying security camera footage from a nearby shopping centre after being given a good description of the young man who used the stolen credit card to buy a distinctive-looking basketball.
