A Vancouver mother appeared in court Monday, two days after her son called 911 from her car twice and asked for help because he was scared by his mother’s driving.
“I don’t know if she knows where she’s going,” the boy told a dispatcher.
When asked his age, the boy said, “I’m 8 years old, and my sister is 5 years old and she’s in the car too.”
Paulette Lynn Spears, 33, pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence of intoxicants, fourth-degree assault and two counts of reckless endangerment.
The assault charge was for allegedly biting her son to get him to hang up on the dispatcher.
The boy had to call a second time after his mom took the phone and hung up.
The charges, all gross misdemeanors, are punishable by up to one year in jail.
