Man allowed to divorce wife to save penis

A Taiwan district court granted divorce to a man because his wife, suspecting him of infidelity, had been threatening to cut off his penis.

The Taoyuan District Court granted divorce to the man, identified as Tseng. He claimed to have been suffering from his wife's threats and harassments for two years and to be on the brink of a mental breakdown.

Tseng told the court that he and his wife, Huang, have been married for 10 years. Three years ago, Tseng became a truck driver, which required him to work at night occasionally.

Two years ago, Huang began to suspect Tseng was seeing other women. When Tseng slept, Huang would sometimes wake him up at night to interrogate him and threaten to cut off his penis.

To show Tseng that she was serious, Huang placed a knife beside the bed and sometimes sharpened the blade at night.

After having lived in fear for two years, Tseng asked the court in May to grant him a divorce. The Taoyuan District Court granted the motion on Tuesday on the grounds that his wife's jealousy had made it impossible for them to continue to live together as husband and wife.
