A businessman was arrested, held in a police cell for 13 hours and hauled into court - for smacking a traffic warden's bottom.
Gavin Pilkington, 29, struck when he spotted Peter Kelly leaning over a car to issue a ticket.
Mr Kelly, from Moston, told an off-duty policeman and Pilkington was arrested and locked up for 13 hours before being charged. The court was told that Mr Kelly, who thought he had been kicked, was left 'stunned and sore' by the slap.
Magistrate James Palmer sentenced Pilkington to 120 hours' community service and warned him: "Any more high jinks like this on a public servant and you will end up in jail."
He was also ordered to pay Mr Kelly £100 compensation and £60 costs.
