Man guilty over killing kitten in tumble drier

A 42-year-old man from Salford has been found guilty of animal cruelty after putting a kitten inside his wife's tumble drier and turning it on.

Philip Gannon, of Bulrush Close in Walkden, pleaded not guilty to the offence at Bolton Magistrates' Court.

His estranged wife, Jacqueline Hodson, found the dead kitten the next morning when she went to put her washing in the machine.

An RSPCA inspector described the cruelty as "the most horrific case of animal suffering".

Sentencing was adjourned until 12 November for the preparation of pre-sentence reports.

There are much more detailed news reports here and here.
