Miracle of baby Charlie

A miracle baby who defied the odds after being born with an extremely rare defect has celebrated his first birthday.

Battling Charlie Lynas was born 10 weeks premature and weighed just 2lb 14oz on 19 August last year. Immediately after his birth, he was on life support for two days.

Shortly after, doctors found a hernia in Charlie's testicle and he went to Leeds for an operation.

While removing the hernia, they were amazed to find his appendix was in his testicle as well and that also had to be removed.

Charlie is believed to be one of the only people in the world to be born with such a condition.

To make matters worse, a second hernia was discovered in Charlie's left testicle and had to be removed. He is still relatively small for a one-year-old, but there have been no lasting effects from his operations.
