University tried to ban dwarf from show

A dwarf was banned from a Cambridge University bash in case he offended a student - also a dwarf.

The gaffe came after senior tutor Dr Liz Guild discovered that Captain Dan the Demon Dwarf was due to perform his famous act as part of The Circus of Horrors show at a freshers event at Robinson College.

But Dr Liz Guild, senior tutor who specialises in early modern literature, expressed concern that his appearance might offend one of the university students - who also happened to be a dwarf. Student organisers then tried to cancel Captain Dan, leaving staff at The Circus of Horrors furious.

An email to the circus from Michael Albert Brown, Robinson College's entertainments officer, said: "I'm afraid Demon Dan won't be able to perform, as the senior tutor has expressed her concern due to there being a dwarf attending the university as one of the freshers - which she believes would be uncomfortable. We still want to have performers from Circus of Horrors at the event, but they won't be able to use fire, and we sadly won't be able to have Dan. Could you please tell me an alternative line-up?"

The show's creator, Dr Haze said: "Eventually they agreed to let him perform. We book Dan because of his unique skills and his incredible talent, not because of his size."

Captain Dan, full name Danny Blackner, accused the college of trying to discriminate against him by denying him a job because of his size. Dan hit the headlines earlier this year for supergluing his penis to a vacuum cleaner.
