Mum Michelle Jerzynek couldn't believe it when her son was taken to court - for writing his nickname on a wall with a Twix bar. Adam Jerzynek was 14 when he wrote "Gonk" at the Wheatpieces Community Centre in Walton Cardiff, Tewkesbury.
He and his mother are amazed it led to him being prosecuted for causing criminal damage. They believe it wasted thousands of pounds of public money.
Tewkesbury School pupil Adam was terrified when police turned up at his house to arrest him for creating graffiti on September 26.
Two days later he cleaned off the scrawl and wrote a letter of apology to the community centre but it was not enough to appease the Crown Prosecution Service, which pressed ahead with the case. The charge was dropped this week when the prosecution offered no evidence. No formal explanation was given to Gloucester magistrates as to why.
After the hearing, Michelle waived her son's right to anonymity to speak out at the heavy-handed treatment of her son. "The police presence at our house that day was impressive. There was a police car and I was told there was a riot van around the corner, just for this boy who wrote on a wall with a Twix."
Adam, who is now 15, is also not impressed the case went to court. He said: "When the police came round, it was like I'd murdered someone. They made a big scene of it."
