Clamped shopper ends car protest

A shopper who chained herself inside her car after being clamped has called off her protest after a mystery donor paid her £150 fine.

Mother-of-three Lisa Martin, 33, stayed in her Hyundai Accent for nearly two days after finding a clamp had been fitted to it in Pontypool, Torfaen.

The garden centre worker vowed not to leave until the clamp was removed.

Ms Martin, from nearby Sebastopol, said she had no idea she had parked in a restricted service bay as the two warning signs are more than 20ft (6m) up.

She was demanding an apology and for the signs to be placed where they could be seen.

But she called off the protest on Thursday evening after the clamping company told her a local businessman had paid her fine. Ms Martin says she has now made a formal complaint to the police.
