Dog smuggler sings to cover up barks

Air stewards thought a passenger was barking mad when he began belting out songs at 30,000ft. But the tuneless flyer was trying to drown out the yelps from a dog he had smuggled on to the flight.

Chaos broke out on Virgin Atlantic's flight from Chicago to Heathrow when the poodle was found stowed in an overhead locker.

The alarm was raised when the flight crew heard a male passenger singing at the top of his voice at the back of the plane.

He screeched the words to as many songs as he could remember, alarming some of the other passengers. Despite murdering pop hits and ballads, the dog was finally heard over the din.

The owner then admitted he had smuggled it on board - and got his pet out of a bag stored in the overhead locker. The poodle spent the rest of the flight running up and down the aisles to the bemused delight of most of those onboard.

The owner claimed he did not realise dogs were not allowed to be stowed in the passenger cabin. The dog was yesterday being cared for in Heathrow's animal reception centre.
