Electric wheelchair ban for speeder, 57

A disabled man has been banned from hiring electric wheelchairs for life after being caught speeding.

Allan Redford said Shopmobility bosses slapped him with a ban after claiming he went too fast in their scooters three times.

They say they won't let him hire the 4mph buggies to use at East Kilbride's shopping malls.

Allan, 57, who walks with a stick, said: "I've effectively been accused of acting like a boy racer.

The former forklift driver said the ban has also hit his mother Hannah, 82, who also uses hired wheelchairs to get around the Lanarkshire town's shops. Allan said: "She is housebound now as she needed me with her for support.

"I have trouble enough carrying a bag of shopping when I am with my stick so there is no way I can help her out now."
