Flat wrecked in 'microwave' blast

A flat in York has been badly damaged in an explosion believed to have been caused by a microwave oven.

A woman was taken to hospital suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation after the blast at a second-floor flat in Lawrence Street on Friday night.

Firefighters said internal walls were destroyed and debris was blown into the street by the force of the blast.

The building was evacuated and Lawrence Street was closed to traffic for about two hours, North Yorkshire Police said.

In totally unrelated news, but this time in Lawrence Street, Connecticut, twelve people were displaced by a duplex fire last week. There were no injuries except for a woman who was bitten by her own dog when she woke it up to get it out of the home.
