Konrad Thurano, world's oldest trapeze artist, dies at 98

A German man widely thought to be the world's oldest active trapeze artist has died.

A spokeswoman says Konrad Thurano died on Tuesday in Denmark, where he had been living with his family. He was 98. Thurano got his start in the business in 1924 when he joined the Roncalli Apollo Variety show in Duesseldorf.

In his 83-year-career he performed around the world, rubbing elbows with celebrities including Charlie Chaplin.

Each April for his birthday he would return to Duesseldorf to perform in the Roncalli Variety show, and this year was no exception.

A spokeswoman for the show says he was still really fit, and performed his number just like he always has.
