Naked man ‘running from killer’ enters home

A naked man who said he was being chased by a killer ran into a woman’s home at 22nd and Orchard streets Saturday night.

When police and medical personnel arrived, they found 43-year-old Jessup F. Smith with cuts on his arm, Lincoln Police Capt. David Beggs said. The woman was unhurt.

Smith, a transient, told police he was sleeping at a friend’s house nearby when an unknown number of people forced their way inside and said they wanted to “pop” him. Smith broke a window in the home and jumped from it, which likely caused the cuts, Beggs said. Drugs may have been a factor, he said.

Smith was lodged in the Lancaster County Jail on an arrest warrant for failure to appear in court on open container charges.
