Play your cards right for prison break

New card packs depicting 52 unsolved murders are to be sold in seven jails in the US.

Some cards will show a murder victim along with a description of the crime, while others will show the faces of fugitives. It is hoped prisoners can provide information about unsolved cases and will call a free Crimestoppers number.

“We know those in jail right now have the information to take care of and to bring justice to the victims and the victims’ families,” said Auday Arabo, a Crimestoppers board member. Any information leading to an arrest attracts a $1,000 reward and possibly more if additional money is offered by other parties.

There are 5,100 inmates in San Diego county jails and about 400 packs of cards are bought each month. There are 2,000 cold cases under investigation, some dating back decades.

The cards are modelled on a similar project in Florida which resulted in three cases being solved in three months.
