Police use helicopter to search for dolls' house thief

A police helicopter was scrambled to chase a shoplifter fleeing with dolls' house furniture.

The teen thief set off alarms as he stole 30 packs of miniature tables and chairs worth £500.

Staff dialled 999 then were amazed when police launched the aircraft costing at least £1,000 an hour.

But the thief gave the helicopter the slip with his haul from Hobbycraft in Newport, Gwent.

One shopper, Jacqueline Rees, 48, said: "You think of a helicopter chasing gun-toting killers in America, not a dolls' house raider in Wales."
