Theft of goose saps family's spirit

This is the time of year when Lily the goose would have posed in Parker family photos, her toenails painted a cheerful, holiday red, her head held high with pride.

But not now. She's gone. Swiped, neighbours said, at 2:30 a.m. Monday by several pie-eyed young men who shoved her in the back of a sedan and fled. With a lone squawk and an engine's roar, Lily was goose-napped from her home of two years.

"I want my goose back," said Debbie Parker, Lily's owner. "She loved us so much and we loved her."

Parker said Lily enjoyed being a part of the family. She followed Parker all around the house while she cleaned, watched television in her lap, waited for her in the bathroom while she showered, swam in the pool with Parker's two children and liked her nails painted bright red — two coats. She was just a busybody, a real Mother Goose," Parker said. "I know I sound crazy, but I'm not a crazy person."

Parker said she hasn't gone to the police, figuring there is little they can do to help.

"Unless they pull someone over with a goose in the car," she said. She's hoping someone will just come forward and bring Lily back, no questions asked.
