70 year cricket ban hit for six

A player banned from his cricket club for calling a fellow member a “big fat fool” has been allowed back — 70 years on.

Retired rector Dennis Hibbert, now 84, was 14 when he jeered at the bungling fielder in 1938.

He was booted out of Kimberley Institute Cricket Club near Nottingham — whose committee have now lifted the ban.

Club secretary Jim Dymond said: “It must be the longest on record.”

Dennis, of Nuthall, Notts — now a grandfather of five — said: “My family think it’s a hoot.”
