Dog killed with bow and arrow

A man from St. Charles County shot and killed his neighbour's dog with a bow and arrow on Tuesday afternoon.

Richard Jennings, 45, of the 3200 block of Greenwich Lane, said he shot and killed Dale, a 3-year-old Akita-Chow mix, because it had been snarling at him in his front yard and previously attacked his Labrador, Sunny.

Dale's owners, Fred Kaucher, 54, and his daughter Crystal, 20, said they are upset and that the shooting was cruel.

Crystal Kaucher said she watched from her front door as Jennings shot Dale in the Kaucher family's front yard.

"You can't come over here and kill my dog in front of my daughter," Fred Kaucher said. "That's crap."

Jennings said in an interview that he feels horrible about killing his neighbour's dog but said Dale was dangerous and a threat to the neighborhood. "I think I did everybody a favour," he said.
