Man believed drowned 15 years ago 'is alive and well in France'

A father of four who was reported to have drowned at sea 15 years ago after leaving a suicide note is believed to be alive and well and living in France.

Walter Dominy, 71, was tracked down to a village near Toulouse where, it is claimed, he lives with his wife on three state pensions, two claimed with a false identity and one in his own name. His eldest daughter Lorna made the extraordinary claims yesterday when she said: “I can’t live with the lies and deceit any more. The pressure of trying to keep up my parents’ charade has cost us all dear. It put so much strain on my marriage it broke up.”

Mr Dominy allegedly vanished after selling his printing firm in Dorset and moving to Ireland, where he set up a new company that collapsed with debts of £200,000. His car was found on the Rosslare-to-Fishguard ferry in October 1993 with a suicide note inside. His family believed he had drowned until, three months later, he allegedly contacted his wife Margaret, now 64. Lorna claimed all the couple’s children were sworn to secrecy.

The couple later moved into a new house and Dominy took various jobs in Northern Ireland, which are believed to have included working for what was the Department of Health and Social Security, and in Stormont, before moving to France 2½ years ago.
