Man's hand severed in sword attack at Dublin pub

A man has had his hand severed during a sword attack at a pub in the Finglas area of north Dublin.

The incident occurred just before 9pm last night in the Deputy Mayor pub in Meakstown.

Two attackers entered the pub, one of them armed with a sword and the other wielding a hammer.

The 27-year-old victim, who is believed to have been specifically targeted, was taken to the Mater Hospital and later transferred to St James's to undergo surgery to reconnect his hand.

A 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the attack and is being questioned at Finglas Garda Station.
