A Scottish SAS hero was captured with his privates on parade by CCTV cameras on Britain's busiest seafront near Blackpool's Pleasure Beach.
Captain Andrew McLauchlan, 44, was arrested when he was caught pleasuring himself in the early hours following a night’s drinking.
The officer was due in court yesterday but magistrates heard that he was on a spying mission in Iraq. The trial, which went ahead in his absence, was told Edinburgh-born McLauchlan was arrested after running away when confronted by two police officers.
He was seen involved in a solo sex act at about 1.30am outside a pub. There were other people about at the time, including a girl who was lying on the pavement about five yards away from him.
PC Gillian Leech told the court: "McLauchlan was drunk. He kept breaking wind in front of me. I asked him to stop several times. He did not seem bothered until I got out my handcuffs and I said I was going to arrest him. He started to run."
But magistrates acquitted McLauchlan after accepting a submission from Trevor Colebourn, defending, that there was insufficient evidence he had alarmed or distressed anyone. Mr Colebourn said what his client had done that night was not contested but no one had complained to the police about being alarmed about it.
