Punters at a performance art night were so disgusted by a lewd act on stage that it sparked a huge punch-up.
Police had to be called in to calm the crowd at the Cumberland Arms pub in Byker, Newcastle, after the sick stunt.
A few minutes into a performance by a band called Pills From America, the lead singer put his finger up his backside then wiped it on an audience member’s face provoking a scuffle. The event promoter called the police who arrested band member Mark Pennington, 24, for disorderly conduct.
An audience member said: “I walked in as it happened. The singer got on the stage put his finger in the back of his underpants and then wiped his dirty finger on a man’s face.
“The bloke who it happened to got up and properly lamped him. Then the police came and someone got arrested. It was unbelievable.”
A Cumberland Arms spokesman said: “We would not have allowed him in the building if we knew that would happen. We’ve never had anything like this at one of these events and we were disgusted. I am not someone who judges someone else’s art forms and, although I do not believe it is valid, it is up to them ... just not here.”
