Woman falls unconscious after mixing Cillit Bang with Domestos

A pensioner fell unconscious after using a mixture of cleaning detergents to remove limescale from her bath, paramedics said.

Marjorie Bowkett, 73, of Bicknacre, Essex, was "overcome by fumes" after combining Domestos and Cillit Bang, ambulance chiefs said.

Paramedic David Bacon said Ms Bowkett managed to dial 999 but was unconscious on her driveway when they arrived shortly afterwards.

Mr Bacon said: "We immediately started performing CPR, administered oxygen and took her to hospital. While travelling to hospital, Marjorie started to respond to her treatment. Thankfully, she now appears to have made a full recovery."

An Essex Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "It just seems like a freak incident and we don't know exactly why it happened.

"She was overcome by fumes after she innocently used a mixture of Cillit Bang with Domestos. It's not the sort of thing we normally get to hear about."
