A mum was caught drink-driving with her two children in the car after she climbed behind the wheel while twice the legal limit. Peterlee magistrates heard how Jennifer Lowery's teenage stepdaughter called police after seeing her get into the vehicle.
The court was told the 38-year-old then hid her car keys in her vagina in a bid to evade a conviction because she already had a drink-driving offence on her record.
Prosecuting, Debra Jones said: "The stepdaughter was concerned because of the previous conviction and informed police that she thought her stepmum was driving a vehicle under the influence."
Police later and saw Lowery walking along Stafford Place, Peterlee, with her two youngest daughters, aged 11 and 12. Officers found her Peugeot 307, which was still warm, down the road, but Lowery denied driving it.
Mrs Jones said: "She was asked to provide a road side breath test and became verbally abusive and used foul language. She was arrested and struggled with police officers who took her to the police station." She explained that Lowery denied having the car keys, but a strip search at the station revealed she had hidden them.
A test showed a reading of 188 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood – more than twice the legal limit. Lower pleaded guilty to getting behind the wheel while twice the legal limit. Sentence was adjourned until April 9 for a pre-sentence report.
