Indian villagers in the southern state of Tamil Nadu awoke to find a thirsty elephant trapped in the village's well.
At 20 feet, the depth of the well prevented the elephant from escaping on its own.
A team of ten forestry officials brought in a mechanical digger to free the elephant.
After 9-10 hours the elephant was finally rescued and reunited with its herd. Incidents such as these are becoming more common as elephants enter villages in search of food and water.
