Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures named best ever LP cover

Fans have named Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures as the most iconic album cover of all time.

The "pulses" design by artist Peter Saville topped a poll which included the Beatles and Pink Floyd.

The images were from the Cambridge Encyclopedia of Astronomy and showed 100 pulses from a pulsar, or a neutron star. Unknown Pleasures was their debut album in 1979 and had no track listings.

The Top 10 were:

1 Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures
2 The Stone Roses - The Stone Rose
3 The Beatles - Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
4 The Smiths - Meat is Murder
5 Led Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy
6 The Beatles - Abbey Road
7 Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of the Moon
8 David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust
9 Paul Weller - Stanley Road
10 Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks
