Nude, armless man found swimming with alligators ... again

Polk County Sheriff's deputies patrolling Saddle Creek Park, U.S. Highway 92, Lakeland, found an unoccupied pickup truck near one of the ponds early Friday morning.

Deptuies say after discovering who the vehicle belonged to, Adrian Apgar, they began searching the area for the Polk City resident.

Apgar is no stranger to the Sheriff's Office. Four deputies rescued him from the jaws of an alligator in November 2006. The gator tore off his arm.

This time, deputies found Apgar naked and standing in the water. They say he was walking toward an alligator.

The deputies were able to talk him out of the water and placed him in protective custody. He told deputies that he had been bitten by a snake while looking for an alligator.

"He told the deputies, he knew he was 'gambling' with his life. Our deputies have been placed in danger twice as a result of this man's actions," said Sheriff Grady Judd. Deputies took Apgar to Lakeland Regional Medical Center for a mental evaluation.
