Satnav comes to the Zimmer Frame

Their legs aren't what they used to be and nor, sadly, is their memory. But now one nursing home thinks it has the hi-tech answer to help its elderly residents get around more easily - a satnav device for their Zimmer Frames.

Residents of the Betuweland nursing centre in the Dutch village Bemmel have been trying out the new navigation system for their frames for several months.

It was developed by students of at a technical college in the Netherlands specifically for people with amnesia or orientation problems.

The inventors, from Arnhem-Nijmegen University, intended it to help elderly users avoid getting lost, especially in their own care homes.
