Tony Blair, the rat, launches artistic career

Tony Blair has launched a career as an artist, causing a stir in art circles with his latest masterpiece sculpted entirely out of avocado.

That's Tony Blair the pet rat, not his more famous Downing Street namesake.

For the past six months, Tony has been honing his artistic talent at his home in Newcastle upon Tyne, where he lives with his rodent siblings Gordon Brown and Gabriel Archangel.

Owner Helena Seget, who runs an art studio, said she had watched Tony's creative talent blossom in recent months. "I first noticed his creative potential when he walked across some clay tiles and left his paw prints and it went from there," she said.

"I have heard of other people using rats in their art, but not a rat who produces his own art. I think he is definitely unique. He is a bit of a Greta Garbo character. He likes to be alone. He is currently working on an installation on plastic bags. He drags them across the room and shreds them," Ms Seget said.

Tony has gained international attention since Ms Seget posted Tony's work on the Saatchi gallery's website. When his work went up against others in an online competition, he received 500 votes.
