Banks raid lookout girl gets court in the act

A lookout for a gang of Liverpool bank robbers was snared when she turned up at court to support them.

Julie Roberts, 38, had dressed as a smart-looking businesswoman, complete with mobile phone and fake designer handbag, as she loitered outside banks.

But she was only waiting for the right moment to bring in the rest of her gang , when the bank was at its most vulnerable, restocking cash machines.

Officers from Merseyside police’s Matrix squad arrested two of the group as they tried to rob a bank in Knutsford on August 24 last year. But Roberts was not caught until her colleagues appeared in court a few days’ later.

Detectives recognised the blonde, who was in the public gallery with one of the accused’s girlfriend, from their set of CCTV stills.

They arrested Roberts, of Alexandra Road, Mold, on the court landing. She was jailed for four years after admitting conspiracy to rob at Liverpool crown court.
