A bird-lover has been given an Asbo after his cockerels tormented neighbours for years with 420 crows an hour.
Peter Stoodley, 64, tended his unruly flock of 100 cockerels and chickens in a cramped yard behind his carpet shop but has now been ordered to dispose of them.
The news will be a relief for neighbours who, the court heard, regularly faced bad smells and 2.30am wake-up calls.
'This has been going on for a long time without any joy as far as his neighbours are concerned and they have also been subject to a fair amount of intimidation,' said Sarah Clover, prosecuting.
But after the case Stoodley, of Shepton Mallet in Somerset, said: 'There is no way I am going to kill those birds. I would rather go to prison.'
He was also ordered to pay a £2,500 fine and £5,191 costs at South Somerset Magistrates' Court.
