Australian police officer breaks wrist in watermelon attack

A policeman's wrist was broken when he was pelted with a watermelon and shoes during a drug bust on the Gold Coast.

Police said they raided a unit in Elliott St, Bundall, yesterday, arresting three people and laying 11 charges between them.

During the raid a man threw a watermelon and shoes at a policeman from the balcony of the unit, breaking the officer's wrist.

Two men, aged 23 and 21, have been charged with assaulting police.

The 23-year-old also faces various drug-related offences, including possessing a dangerous drug.

A 30-year-old woman was charged with two counts of tainted property and all three are due to appear at Southport Magistrates Court on May 21.
