Camera thief caught on tape

Garden Grove police said yesterday they are still searching for a man who was caught on surveillance footage stealing high-tech surveillance cameras.

The thief stole four cameras from the outside of a commercial building housing REVCO Industries said Garden Grove police Lt. Dave Kivler.

Apparently it did not occur to the thief that the cameras were recording, Kivler said, adding that the man was probably attracted to the new and hi-tech nature of the devices. But he was correct in his assumptions that they would take very clear pictures, Kivler said.

The footage shows the man stealing each of the four cameras and captures him start to sweat from his labour and remove his jacket, Kivler said. He appears to favour his left hand, signaling that he could be left-handed, Kivler said.

Police released the footage in the hope that he will be recognized, but recommended that the man turn himself in.

The thief was described as bald and possibly 6 feet tall with a medium build, Kivler said.
