Drink driver caught 15 minutes after ban ends

A drink driver banned from the road for three years was caught drunk behind the wheel again - just 15 minutes after his 1,095 day ban ended.

Peter Savage was caught by traffic officers as he drove back home after a night out celebrating the end of his ban with friends, during which he had drunk four pints of lager.

The court heard that after being pulled to the side of the road the 28-year-old scrapyard worker gave a false name and address as he tried to escape out of another ban.

A breath test showed that Savage - who was jailed in May 2005 for three months and banned for three years after being caught drink driving - was twice the drink drive limit.

He admitted the offence at Canterbury magistrates court on Monday - but escaped jail despite also having no insurance or a licence.

Savage was banned from driving for three years and given an 18 month supervision order. He was also ordered to complete 200 hours unpaid work and will pay £60 costs.
