Baby swans hit the highway

Traffic came to a standstill as the swans lead their eight cygnets across a high street.

They even followed the highway code by using a zebra crossing as they waddled 500 yards from the beach back to their boating lake home.

Shopper Dave Quinnell, who took the pictures in Perranporth, Cornwall, said: "They were lined up outside the fish and chip shop looking in the window. It was surreal."

A local RSPCA warden said: "Maybe they thought it was a pelican crossing."
