Rescuers got quite a surprise on Saturday as they approached a vehicle that had crashed in Little Cottonwood Canyon, when the victims flung their own blood at them.
Two men hurt themselves on Saturday after crashing the vehicle in the canyon and flipping it on its roof. As rescuers tried to pull them from the wreckage, authorities said the men used broken glass from the vehicle to slash their wrists and then threw blood at emergency personnel.
Rescuers pulled one of the men from the wreckage, but had trouble retrieving the other - who authorities said was combative and had to be subdued by a stun gun. Both men were transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
Authorities tried to determine whether the crash was a suicide attempt because it appears the car was wrecked intentionally. Investigators believe that drugs or alcohol likely played a factor in the incident.
