Firefighters rescue man stuck in bath for two days

A man who had been stuck in his bath for two days was rescued by firefighters who found him by chance after a blaze at a neighbouring flat in East Yorkshire.

The elderly man suffered a medical condition which left him unable to move and it is believed he had been confined to the bath in Eastgate Flats, Goole, since Tuesday.

Fire crews found him as they checked on neighbours following the blaze in the same building, from which two people were rescued.

A spokesman for Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said crews realised the man was in difficulty as they visited his flat after the blaze.

Firefighters used equipment to break into the property and rescued the pensioner, who was taken to Scunthorpe General Hospital for treatment.

A spokesman said: "It is a very sad story for the man in the bath, who was clearly in need of urgent medical treatment. We are pleased that our teams were on hand to offer assistance to the gentleman and we pass on our best wishes to him for a speedy recovery."
