A German woman in Mülheim in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia has been rooming with her three-legged pet llama for the last two years, city officials said.
Authorities discovered the woman was living in her apartment with the llama when someone made a complaint to animal protection services.
Workers did not take the llama into custody, however, because the woman was able to convince them she was actively searching for appropriate accommodation for the animal.
Apparently the woman had bottle fed the llama as a cria (baby llama) after it had to have one of its hind legs amputated. According to the animal protection workers, the llama is completely dependent on the woman.
Attempts to find a field or stable for the tripodal pet have been unsuccessful, but animal services are working to find a "solution that makes all sides happy."
