Clampers introduce £100 'swear-box' charge for angry victims

A clamping company has introduced a £100 "swear-box" charge on victims who vent their fury at attendants.

Bulldog Services, which patrols the car park of retailer Comet in Bath, Somerset is levying the "abusive behaviour" fee on top of its £125 release cost.

One couple, who did not wish to be named, said they were ordered to pay the fine when the husband swore once at discovering the wheel clamp.

The housewife, 33, said: "My husband in no way swore at the attendant, he turned to me to say it. The man said we had 20 minutes to pay £225. A policeman came along and said there was nothing he could do because the dispute was on private grounds.

Signs in the car park warn that there will be a charge of £100 if abusive behaviour means extra staff have to be called. But the couple said no back-up staff had been summoned.

Bulldog Services could not be contacted but earlier a spokesman told the Bath Chronicle: "The charge is enforced to stop abusive behaviour towards the attendants.
