Rescuers picked up a duck with an arrow sticking through it on Monday morning as it tried to swim in an Ocala retention pond.
After emergency surgery, the Peking duck was alive - a lucky duck, to say the least. Ocala Wild Life Sanctuary president Keith Belisle held the duck - with bloodied white feathers and two cleaned wounds - in his arms, trying to provide a little comfort.
"We're hoping she'll make a full recovery", Belisle said. "We just hope whoever did this will be brought to justice.
"This wasn't a case of hunting," he said. "It was just cruelty."
