Burping in the police station has landed a Tully man in hot water.
Police arrested the 19-year-old in the town, south of Cairns, and charged him with being a public nuisance on Monday, minutes after he allegedly burped in the face of an administrative assistant at the front counter.
A police spokesman alleged the man burped twice in the woman's face.
The spokesman further alleged police told the man to stop burping but he then began "swearing, became abusive to police and aggressive in front of others including an elderly woman waiting at the counter". The man was allegedly warned not to swear.
Police have alleged he then burped for a third time and walked out of the police station. Police arrested him and took him to the watchhouse.
The 19-year-old is due to face Tully Magistrate's Court on September 15 over the ensuing public nuisance charge. Innisfail Police District's David Tucker did not know yesterday why the alleged burper had come into the police station in the first place.
