Police give shooting victim his leg back

A judge on Wednesday ordered Alliance police to return a prosthetic leg seized from a victim in a shooting last week.

Val McCabe, 58, and his wife, Muffy Buckles, filed a lawsuit against Box Butte County to get McCabe's leg back. The prosthesis had been seized as evidence after McCabe was shot Friday night. The County Attorney's Office was keeping the leg as evidence for a possible trial, according to Buckles.

District Judge Brian Silverman ordered the leg returned "within the hour." Police were allowed to remove a bullet from the leg before returning it.

The leg has now been returned, said McCabe's attorney, Robert Pahlke of Scottsbluff.
