Underground cattle trade thrives in Gaza tunnels

An increasing number of cattle are being smuggled into Gaza through underground tunnels from Egypt.

The Israeli blockade of the territory prevents young calves from being transported into Gaza so many Palestinians are turning to the tunnels to source livestock.

Cattle traders say there is growing demand for livestock in preparation for Eid al-Adha, the Muslim festival of sacrifice, on December 10th.

Hamas authorities who took control of Gaza from Fatah in 2007 endorse the tunnels and have introduced regulations to license and control trade.
