Man in Canada has the world's longest beard

Surrey teacher Sarwan Singh, a devout Sikh, now has the world's longest beard as officially measured at 1.895 metres last night at the Akal Academy in Surrey.

His beard, measured in an elaborate ceremony witnessed by three judges, many members of the media and close to 200 people, will be submitted to Guinness World Records officials for recognition.

As he posed for pictures with his wife and two children, Singh's beard hung from his chin to the floor.

"Thank you to the all-mighty God," said Singh, 42, dressed in a traditional white Sikh garment. "This is a gift from God. I have a feeling of divine happiness."
