Chinese man ruptures girlfriend's ear with passionate kiss

An amorous Chinese man has discovered the perils of excessive ardour after kissing his girlfriend so passionately that she ruptured her eardrum.

The 20-something woman from the city of Zhuhai, in Guangdong province of southern China, is reported to have partially lost her hearing as a result of her paramour's embrace.

According to the China Daily, the accident happened because the man sucked too hard during the kiss. "The inner ear is connected to the mouth through a tube, whose chief function is to equalize the pressure between the two," said Li, a doctor at Zhuhai Second People's Hospital quoted by the China Daily.

"The kiss reduced pressure in the mouth, pulled the eardrum out and caused the breakdown of the ear," he said.

However, there was some good news for the unlucky couple: her hearing is expected to return to normal after about two months.

Taking no chances, the paper warned its readers to practice safe sex: "While kissing is normally very safe, doctors advise people to proceed with caution," it said.
