Older women have been regularly verbally attacking bus drivers in Dundee, according to one transport company in the city.
The boss of Transport Dundee has said that drivers - men and women - are often abused by residents angry at changes to bus timetables or routes.
They are also regularly berated if services are delayed because of roadworks or snow.
Residents have been urged to complain to head office not individual drivers.
Director of Travel Dundee Lawrence Davie said he was shocked to hear the abuse was being made not by youngsters in hoodies but by "elderly grannies."
He said: "They [drivers] get it taken out on them regularly and it's older members of the public that they wouldn't expect that sometimes get very abusive towards drivers when they're trying to do their jobs."
