Indian school boy attacks grandparents over father's suicide

An armed school student went berserk in Kolkata, injuring his maternal grand parents and aunt.

Initial reports say that he was depressed and wanted to avenge his father's suicide for which he held his maternal grandparents responsible.

The student of Class VIII of a school visited his grandparents on Chetla Road in south Kolkata on Monday afternoon.



This 14-year-old student of a reputed south Kolkata school then had lunch and watched television before attacking his aunt Baisakhi with a sickle.

When the grandparents rushed in to help, he attacked them too. The injured trio were rushed to SSKM Hospital. Grandfather of the alleged attacker school boy, Anil Ghosh, 70 and grandmother Chayanika, 67 were administered 18 and 41 stitches, respectively. The 42-year-old aunt whose name is Baisakhi received 35 stitches and is stated to be critical.

The teenage boy, who lives with his mother and younger sister at his maternal grandparents’ house in Janbazar has been arrested and charged with attempt to murder. If convicted, he would be sentenced to life imprisonment or upto 10 years in jail.
